Dave Westlake to speak
Dave Westlake, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate and resident of Watertown, Wis. will be visiting the Ripon College campus to give a presentation on his platform at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, March 11 in Todd Wehr Room 104. He is an entrepreneur, a small business owner, and an NRA Life Member. He possesses a degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point as well as an MBA from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business. He also served in the U.S. Army. His talk will be open to the public.
Spring break begins Friday
As of 5 p.m. March 12, spring break is in effect. If students have not filled out a room reservation form by 5 p.m. March 11, their keycard will be deactivated and time spent on campus will result in a $25 per night fine. The last meal served by the Pickard Commons will be Friday lunch and will resume for Sunday brunch March 21. Residence halls will reopen at 8 a.m. Sunday March 21.
Midsemester grade reports
Students may check to see if they are doing as well in their classes as they thought they were as midsemester grade reports will be available to students via the myRipon Portal as of March 22. They will also be distrubuted to advisors at this time.
Poets and authors on campus
The Student Media and Activities Committee (SMAC) is bringing the international spoken word poet Gabriela Garcia Medina to campus to perform her Latino poetry at the Bovay Terrace March 24 at 8:30 p.m. The English Department will also be bringing in a Choctaw author, play-wright and scholar by the name of Leanne Howe at the end of the month, March 31, who will be reading from her work in the Caestecker Gallery in the Rodman Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Both writers focus heavily in their cultural backgrounds and will present writings to reflect them.
Etiquette Dinner by L. Joyce
Ripon College's eleventh annual Etiquette Dinner will be hosted by Lynne Joyce and the Career Development Office March 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Heritage Room in the Pickard Commons. This evening is geared to try to teach students the finer points of proper table manners in an effort to prepare students for encounters they may have in the business world. Questions like "What should I order?," "What do I do if I drop my fork on the floor?" and "What if I spill something on my shirt?" will be answered. Seating is limited. The deadline to sign up is March 12.
SSS hiring Peer Contacts
Student Support Services is still seeking applicants for the position of Peer Contact. Students interested must have at least a sophomore standing at the beginning of next fall, a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, a positive attitude and be able to interview in person this semester.
