Eating disorder awareness
This week has been nationally identified as Eating Disorder Awareness Week to encourage the spread of knowledge about these diseases. Sociology Professor Liddy Hope will give an educational talk tonight in Bear Auditorium at 7 p.m. about eating disorders. She will share information on how to identify if someone has an eating disorder. She will explain the different types of disorders as well as the signs and symptoms for each.
Double down at poker night
Residence Life will be hosting a Ripon After Dark Poker Night tomorrow night in Great Hall at 9 p.m. Anyone wanting to try their luck and ante up is welcome to attend. Students will be given a preset number of poker chips for bets. When the night is over, students may exchange their remaining poker chips for a variety of prizes. There will also be snacks for anyone who stops by. Questions can be directed to Hall Director Ryan Dwyer.
EGOR hosts climate panel
Not long after returning from the environmental conference Powershift 2009, members of EGOR will present some of their discoveries at a Golden Hour held Tuesday, March 10 at 11:15 a.m. in Great Hall. The four-day conference, which begins in Washington D.C. this weekend, aims to educate participants on the effects of climate change and give them the skills they need to organize and advocate for their green beliefs. Before returning to Ripon, members of EGOR will be able to participate in workshops and hear from speakers such as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
Catch "Recount" with the Dems
The movie "Recount" will be shown by the college Democrats tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the Pub. Released in 2008, the film dramatizes the events of the 2000 election, including the battle for Florida and the final Supreme Court ruling that decided the 43rd President of the United States. The cast includes Hollywood notables Kevin Spacey and Ed Begley, Jr.
Rock the vote for senate execs
Students may cast their ballots for next year's senate executive board and special graduate trustee beginning Tuesday, March 3. Running for president are juniors Chris Schaefer and Tomissa Porath. Running for vice president is sophomore Matt Farley. Current secretary, sophomore Rusty Schultz, is running for treasurer. Write-in votes will be taken for the position of secretary. Angela Twaroski, Tim Reyburn and Kevin McGuire are running for Special Graduate Trustee.
Madison's Yid Vicious to jam
Seasoned folk band Yid Vicious will play this Friday in Demmer Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. Yid Vicious specializes in Klezmer, which is music from the Yiddish culture. Playing a large variety of instruments from clarinet to fiddle to saxophone, the members of the band claim to be hungry for attention and to inspire celebration. Even though Yid Vicous' repertoire focuses on traditional Yiddish melodies, they say they strive to incorporate new ideas.
